INDIA, SEPTEMBER 6, 2018 – Like every year, the month of September will witness close to 14,000 dedicated men and women across Ford’s operations in India come together to contribute to a better world.
With close to 47 projects chosen as part of the Global Caring Month, Ford employees across Chennai, Sanand, Gurgaon/NCR and Coimbatore will contribute to society in the areas of education, environmental sustainability, safety, health and humanitarian support.
“Ford employees work to bring improvement in communities year round, and Ford Global Caring Month in September is the highlight of that commitment,” said Anurag Mehrotra, president and managing director, Ford India. “Like every year, it feels great to see how Ford employees are making steady progress toward the goal of a better world for everyone.”
Volunteerism is an integral part of Ford business with the company encouraging its employees to participate, with paid time off of up to 16 hours annually towards community work. Some of the key volunteer projects earmarked during the month of September this year include:
Gurgaon/NCR: Ford volunteers will get behind launching their flagship school intervention program – Happy Schools. Aiming at providing holistic education, Happy Schools program in Gurgaon/NCR will be steered by NGO Nalandaway and focus on learning via art-based-curriculum. The intervention in its first phase will cover 10 Government primary schools, benefitting more than 1000 children.
Tamil Nadu: Ford volunteers in Tamil Nadu will be involved in Science and Waste Recycle workshops across schools, Community service with specially-abled children, Health camps and donation drives for community projects and Road safety awareness workshops, safety walks, street lays and flashes mobs
Gujarat: Ford volunteers from Sanand plant will organize a Green Marathon and plantation drive along with revamping infrastructure of the Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary and restore ponds and improve water access for 3,500 households in two villages.
Alongside employees, Ford dealerships teams across India will also join in the efforts to contributing to relevant projects in respective communities around India.
Ford Global Caring Month marks the largest concentration of Ford employees performing service work in the community each year, but Ford volunteers are on the job at food banks, care facilities and schools all year long. Since its launch in 2005 by Executive Chairman Bill Ford, the Ford Volunteer Corps has contributed more than 1.5 million hours of community service in 50 countries, representing more than $40 million of in-kind community investments.
